Announced back in June, Electronic Arts is developing a Star Wars: Battlefront video game.

Details on the project are slim, but we do learn that it will be a while before it sees the light of day as well as that big plans are set.

Patrick Soderlund, Executive Vice President EA Games, told Polygon.com that Star Wars: Battlefront will be their "Batman Arkham Asylum," meaning SWB will do for the Star Wars franchise what Arkham did for the Batman video games.

"The most important thing for me is that we take the Star Wars license and come up with games where peoples' jaws drop," Soderlund said. "We need to do with this what [Batman: Arkham Asylum] did for the Batman license."

Soderlund also said the game is being developed by the creators of Battlefield and Mirror's edge, and that as seen in the teaser trailer, the speeder and AT-AT will definitely be featured.

"It's going to take awhile. We just announced the license and showed a sneak peek of Hoth. The speeder and the AT-AT will be in [the game] for sure," he said.

There is also some good news for fans that were hoping to see something from the defunct Star Wars games, "1313" and "Battlefront 3," in that EA is looking at everything.

"We didn't toss anything out," Soderlund offered. "We're looking at the old games. We have access to everything that was done during the LucasArts era. But we do want to take our own stance."

It was announced in the first week of May that Electronic Arts Inc. signed a new multi-year exclusive licensing agreement to develop and publish globally new games based on Star Wars characters and storylines.

Under the agreement, EA will develop and publish new Star Wars titles for a core gaming audience, spanning all interactive platforms and the most popular game genres, while Disney will retain certain rights to develop new titles within the mobile, social, tablet and online game categories.
