On top of the recent news that BioWare founders, Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuck, are retiring from the gaming company comes word from BioWare Edmonton and Montreal general manager Aaryn Flynn that "Mass Effect 4" and additional downloadable content are on the way.

In a blog post at BioWare.com (via IGN), Flynn writes, "Executive Producer Casey Hudson and his team are coming off an amazing eight-year run with the Mass Effect trilogy. But they’re not done yet. We are releasing more multiplayer content and we have more single-player stories coming throughout the next six months, including Omega which is coming in the Fall."

Flynn continues with mention of another Mass Effect full game, and that fan input would be welcome.

"But the Mass Effect universe is vast, and Casey and our teams have plans for another full game. ”˜Where to go next?’ with such a project has been a question a lot of us have been asking, and we’d all love to hear your ideas," Flynn said.

Flynn goes on to say that the new Mass Effect will, indeed, be all-new game, "from the ground up."

"Both Dragon Age and Mass Effect games started as single purpose and grew into vast universes. We aren't stopping there. While continuing to oversee the development of our new Mass Effect project, Casey and his team are putting together their vision for a new game set in a fictional universe, built from the bottom-up with all new gaming technology."

Reportedly, it's been said that a "Mass Effect 4" would not feature Commander Shepard, and with the news from above, it seems likely.
