As the only video game franchise to have the player’s combined efforts actually count for something in its previous two installments, Mass Effect 3 is presented as a galactic struggle for sentient life to survive and an epic final chapter in the Commander Shepard storyline.
The sci-fi storytelling in the Mass Effect franchise has put both “the Trek” and “the Wars” to shame for not ever doing the one thing all sci-fi does when it seems to have run its course: jumping the shark on drama.
