Let the console wars begin!

Or continue, as Sony announced at the E3 a complete "180" from what industry analysts have been predicting in that the PS4 would follow the lead of XBox One by hindering the used game market as well as always needing a connection to play.

Sony announced the exact opposite in that their next-gen console, the Playstation 4, will not need a connection to verify games and will support used games.

It's also reported that the PS4 will support selling, lending and trading of the games, with purchasing a game meaning that it is owned by the consumer forever.

Games on XBox One are more akin to a license as Microsoft revealed a whole host of complicated details for their system which has led to many unhappy consumers.

Update: Sony released the following from the E3 live cast:

PS4 won’t impose any new restrictions on your use of PS4 game discs. PS4 disc-based games don’t need to be connected online to play. If you enjoy single-player games offline, PS4 won’t require you to 'check in' online periodically. PS4 games won’t stop working if you haven’t authenticated in 24 hours.

Update #2: Sony announced that a Playstation Plus membership is required for online play, but single-player games and other media services will not requre it.
